On May, 21st employees of the National Library of the Republic of Tatarstan participated in solemnly celebrating of 85th anniversary of the writer, the poet, the journalist and teacher Samat Shakir (1924-1998) in his native land in the village Kubyan in the Atninsky district of the Republic of Tatarstan.
Among participants there were representatives of the Union of writers of the Republic of Tatarstan led by the deputy chairman Vakif Nuriev, relatives of Samat Shakir and residents of the village. School children performed his verses and songs at the museum of Samat Shakir.
Participants of ceremonial meeting have shared their memories about Samat Shakir, have noted the importance and necessity of his creativity for a patriotic education of our young people. As a gift from the National library of the Republic of Tatarstan, two copies of a bibliographic index of the literature «Samat Shakir» created at the National Library of the Republic of Tatarstan, have been transferred to the museum.

The seven-volume work entitled “The History of the Tatars since Ancient Times” written in English language and published by the Institute of History of Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan has supplemented the Department of Literature in Foreign Languages of the National Library of the Republic of Tatarstan.
From March 14 to 16, 2017 the officials of the Department of Literature in Foreign Languages of the National Library of the Republic of Tatarstan organized meetings with the lecturers and students of Kazan Federal University.
