Nazib Zhiganov: The Bio-Bibliographic Directory


 
January 15, 2011, was the 100th anniversary of the birth of Nazib Gajazovich Zhiganov (1911-1988), the founder of Tatar professional music, national actor of the USSR, hero of socialism, recipient of numerous awards and medals, including state awards, and outstanding composer and teacher.

“By right he enters into the great galaxy of the most splendid sons of the Tatar people. His creativity has marked a new stage in the development of Tatar national musical culture. The work of Nazib Zhiganov is so great and so diverse that it allows one to speak about him as not only one of the greatest figures of musical culture of the 20th century in Tatarstan, but also in Russia as a whole.” - President of the Republic of Tatarstan, R. N. Minnihanov, on the 100th anniversary of the birth of the composer Nazib Zhiganov.

Zhiganov is the author of eight operas, three ballets, seventeen symphonies, and numerous vocal, chamber and instrumental pieces, and songs. His participation and management connects the opening and activity of such musical establishments and organisations as: Kazan State Conservatory, Tatar State Opera Theatre, Symphonic Orchestra of the RТ, Union of Composers of the RТ, Kazan Specialised School (now the Lycée at the conservatory). The bio-bibliographic directory, “Nazib Zhiganov,” has been adjusted for this significant date. It consists of eight sections, which include his biography, his works (which include notes and audio-files), articles about his life and creativity, statements about Zhiganov, verses and other writings devoted to him, a photo-archive and a bibliography. The directory is in three languages: Tatar, Russian and English.
