Yahin Rustem Muhamethazeevich (1921-1993)

Rustem Muhamethazeevich Yahin was born on August 16, 1921, in Kazan. He received his music education at the Musical School at Moscow Conservatories and in Moscow State Conservatory classes for composition and piano.

In the days of the Great Patriotic War he was a marksman for the Antiaircraft-Artillery Divisions, and served in the front song and dance ensemble.

It is difficult to overestimate the value of the creative heritage of Yahin, who has enriched the genre of national music with his innovative style, content and themes.

Yahin is the founder of the Tatar romance. He wrote and created more than 450 romances and songs. Vocal works by the composer, his vocal renditions of G. Tukay and M. Jalil's verses, were repeatedly recipients of awards in republican competitions and also awarded, in 1959, the G. Tukay State Award of Tatarstan.

Yahin is the founder of the national instrumental music concert in Tatarstan. His piano concerts remain, to this day, unsurpassed in the genre.

Yahin's contribution to the development of instrumental music is considerable. His works have lifted Tatar music to the same level as similar European traditions.

Yahin was not only an outstanding composer, but also an amazing pianist, popularising works by Tatar, Russian and foreign authors.

Yahin became the author of the national anthem of the RТ.

For merits in the development of musical art he was awarded the honourable rank of national actor of the USSR and Russia, becoming an honoured artist in Tatarstan and Russia, as well as being awarded with other awards and medals.

Yahin died on November 23, 1993.
