On October 1, 1609 the Poles settled into a long siege of Smolensk during the Polish–Muscovite War. It was a heroic defense of Russian nation against the barbaric invasion of the Poles.

On October 9, 1760 during the Seven Years’ War the Russian army occupied the city of Berlin.

On October 14, 1811 the Russian army under the command of field marshal Kutuzov crossed the Danube river and totally defeated the Turkish army consisting of 20 thousand soldiers in the battle of Ruschuk.

On October 18, 1813 the Russian army with allied troops convincingly defeated Napoleon in the Battle of Leipzig (Battle of the Nations).

On October 20, 1827 the Russian fleet with allies put the Turkish fleet to rout at the Battle of Navarino, a naval action fought on the west coast of the Peloponnese peninsula.
