2011 has been declared The Year of Tukay in the Republic of Tatarstan in connection with the 125th anniversary of the outstanding figure of Tatar culture, Gabdulla Tukay.
"Nations are similar to birds who are taken by a strong wind from familiar spots to soar high up in the sky and shine with art and force; it is necessary to blow with the winds of progress as they, and after being stirred up, gather, as the representatives of each of the nations expresses their thoughts. It is similar for the birds who have soared up in the sky, they show to the world a force of wisdom, talent and greatness of spirit."
The bio-bibliographic directory of Gabdulla Tukay (1886-1913) is devoted to the 120th anniversary of the birth of the national Tatar poet. It is updated for the 125th anniversary. Included are: the biography and family tree of the poet, his travels, his best known works in the Russian, Tatar, Turkish and English languages, comments about him and articles about his life and creativity, scripts and verses devoted to the poet, a bibliographic index of his literature (including editions from 1995-2010 in reverse-chronological order). A photo archive also contains photos of Gabdullah Tukay (all 16 which are known to exist) and photos of relatives and friends, memorable places connected to the life and creativity of the poet, the stage devoted to performances of his work, and many other things. Reproductions of pictures are included in the section "Tukay in the Arts." Sculptural works representing G.Tukay at different stages of his life and illustrations representing his work done by famous artists are included. There is information concerning the State Premium Award of the Republic of Tatarstan (Gabdullah Tukay Award).
