«The Tatar Gutenberg» is a name of an exhibition to the 150 anniversary of the publisher and book printer Ivan Nikolaevich Haritonov which is organized in the Big reading room of the main building of the National Library of the Republic of Tatarstan (Kremlevskaya str., 33).
I.N.Haritonov has published set of books and magazines in Tatar language, differing with high quality and beautiful design. He was the first who has set the Tatar book to an industrial basis, indefatigably improved ways of book publishing, and used the newest fonts. «The books printed in my printing house should be stored long! » – that was the main objective of Haritonov. In 1909 when celebrated the 40 anniversary of publishing activities of Haritonov, in Tatar periodicals he was honored as «the Tatar Gutenberg».
The exposition allows to familiarize with the books which have published in Haritonov’s printing house more than 100 years ago. There is also presented the literature illustrated the activity of the publisher, his course of life.
The Department of Literature in Foreign Languages of the National Library of the Republic of Tatarstan (36 Karl Marx Str.) is happy to present new book arrivals to its visitors. Our new stock will be interesting to those who learn Russian as a foreign language or teach it to international students.
The seven-volume work entitled “The History of the Tatars since Ancient Times” written in English language and published by the Institute of History of Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan has supplemented the Department of Literature in Foreign Languages of the National Library of the Republic of Tatarstan.
From March 14 to 16, 2017 the officials of the Department of Literature in Foreign Languages of the National Library of the Republic of Tatarstan organized meetings with the lecturers and students of Kazan Federal University.
